What is the Alabama Planned Giving Council?

APGC is an organization for professionals in Alabama whose work involves charitable gift planning. Its membership is comprised of individuals from many professional disciplines -- attorneys, trust officers, charitable fundraisers, accountants, financial planners, insurance counselors, brokers and executives of nonprofit organizations. Six times a year, APGC holds general membership meetings featuring national and local speakers.

APGC is affiliated with the National Committee on Planned Giving, extending the benefits and services of a nationally recognized organization to its members. NCPG strives "to increase the quality and quantity of charitable planned gifts by serving as the voice and professional resource for the gift planning community." Through NCPG, council members receive "The Journal of Gift Planning" and the "Gift Planner Update," a newsletter for gift planners.

APGC actively promotes the Leave a Legacy program in Alabama, which brings together non-profit organizations and gift planning professionals to make individuals aware of the many charitable giving opportunities. Studies show that many would leave a gift in a will or through an estate -- if they were asked.

"The APGC has provided me with continuing education opportunities and exposure to more professionals in the planned giving community. It has helped me better represent my clients and the charities in our community."

"My membership in APGC has allowed me to inform my clients about more charities and planned giving opportunities. I have also enjoyed the interaction with other professional disciplines and learning about their areas of expertise."
